New Initiatives
St Peter's has been proud to launch the inaugural Year 4 Orchestral Scheme in 2023-24. Every child in this year group has had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, with lessons and instrument hire paid for by the School. Various studies have shown how brain development in children can be advanced by music, with 8/9 being the optimum age to capture the imagination. We are so proud of Year 4 for embracing this opportunity. The scheme culminated in an orchestral performance to parents in the Summer term and many decided to carry on lessons privately in Year 5.
Mrs Diana Richards, our Hospitality & Catering Manager, ignited a passion for food and cooking in our Lower School pupils in the Autumn term. She has led various sessions with our pupils in Years 3 to 5, teaching them various food preparing techniques and encouraging them to connect and learn about what goes into their diets. The children made simple but effective small dishes, like pizza roll ups and healthier, homemade chicken nuggets, which were cooked for them in the kitchen and served to them for lunch. Her lessons were so popular, the pupils asked her to run them again in the Spring term!
Our Operations team has rolled out a serious of new interactive screens into most classrooms across the school site. Nursery to Year 2 (Pre-prep) and Years 3 to 5 (Lower School) have all benefitted from the updating of classroom technology. We have jettisoned more old fashioned projectors for these fabulous screens, which provide crystal clear images and allow for touch screen interactivity. Nursery have loved watching the days of the week and months of the year come to life on the screen, while Year 3 have been spotted taking Maths lessons to new heights in group work.
