Art scholars should be creative and passionate about the subject. Scholars will be required to put in a lot of work in their own time. They will be expected to show a strong commitment to the subject and to improving their artistic ability. High standards are expected at all times in both attainment and effort with plenty of opportunities outside of the normal curriculum being provided to support this independent work.
Creative scholars will receive additional support both in school and through online learning platforms with sculpture, printmaking and mixed media workshops. Portfolio and interview preparation sessions with the faculty head, mentoring and career guidance will be offered as well as the opportunity to exhibit their work.
A portfolio will be required to show evidence of a high level of personal creativity, an interest and passion for art and design and potential scholars should be able to demonstrate a range of media that they have explored. In addition, candidates would be expected to present work in journals and sketchbooks.
All work presented should be recent and no more than two years old.
There will be a practical task and a short interview with the Head of Art/DT, where we would discuss the portfolio and candidates should be prepared to present and discuss an artist or designer that inspires their own work.
Art and Design Scholarships are open to applicants from within or outside the School, and are awarded on merit and potential.
Dr Rowan Evans will be happy to answer any questions you may have prior to the assessment day (rowan.evans@stpetersprepschool.co.uk).
